Organization helps kids handle difficult situations
LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) - A Lexington organization is holding a series of workshops to help end the cycle of violence after some of their summer camp attendees witnessed a deadly shooting. Two weeks ago, the children at the Community Inspired Solutions summer camp were playing outside when a deadly shooting took place a few hundred yards away at the Coolavin Park Apartments. I have thought a lot about what to post and say but have had much difficulty finding the words that express our deep sense of loss and sorrow. Mike's profound commitment to his community and the children living there was unparalleled. He will always be loved and missed by those who knew him. Those of us with CIS are committed to continuing our work to help the children and strengthen the family. We ask that you will pray with and for us for continued success.
On May 25, 2017, nine trainees received their ARISE certification as Life Skills Instructors. The two day training was delivered on site in Lexington, Kentucky and was taught by ARISE Senior Trainer Su Sigrist. Rebecca Webb couldn't push aside a deep need to help young people before and after they are snared in a web of violence. "That stayed on my heart," Webb said. "I couldn't let it go or it wouldn't let me go."
